A project-type walkthrough of a marketplace build: onboarding sellers, listings, order routing, commissions and payouts.

Multi-Vendor Marketplaces: Listings, Orders and Payouts

This is a description of a project type we deliver: a platform where several sellers transact through one storefront, and where the rules between them are the real product.

The Challenge

A marketplace has three parties with different needs: buyers who want a single trustworthy checkout, sellers who want control over their listings and settlement, and an operator who needs the commission model to reconcile. Off-the-shelf store software handles one seller well and the rest awkwardly.

Our Approach

Discovery mapped each party's flow end to end: seller onboarding and verification, listing approval, order placement, fulfilment, returns, and settlement. Commission and payout rules were written down as arithmetic before any interface was designed, because that is where disputes originate.

Solution

A platform with seller onboarding and roles, listing management with approval where it is required, a unified cart and checkout across sellers, order routing so each seller sees their own work, and a settlement engine that computes commissions and payouts from recorded events. Reporting serves all three parties from the same records.

Technology

A service layer separating the marketplace rules from the storefront, a transactional ledger for money movements, and integrations with payment providers that support split settlement.

Implementation

Launched with a controlled group of sellers, settlement reconciled manually against the system's own calculations until both agreed consistently, then opened more widely.

Results

Onboarding time, settlement accuracy and dispute volume are measured against the goals agreed at discovery, and published only where verified and approved.
