Training Platforms: Courses, Progress and Assessment
This is a description of a project type we build: a platform where learners work through structured material and the organisation can see that they did.
The Challenge
Training was delivered through documents, meetings and manual registers. Nobody could say with confidence who had completed what, materials drifted out of sync across instructors, and reporting at the end of a programme meant chasing everyone for confirmation.
Our Approach
Discovery traced both sides of the product: the learner's path from enrolment to completion, and the instructor's path from authoring material to reviewing work. The assessment rules were written down before anything else, because they define what the data has to capture.
Solution
A web application with structured courses and modules, enrolment and roles, progress tracking that records what has been completed rather than what was opened, and assessments with question types, attempts and grading. Administration covers cohorts, schedules and reports for whoever needs to see them.
Technology
A relational model for courses, attempts and results, server-rendered pages for reliability on modest connections, and an authoring interface that keeps instructors independent of the development team.
Implementation
Launched with one programme, reviewed with real cohorts, then extended to further content once the reporting matched what the organisation needed to prove.
Results
Completion visibility and administrative effort are measured against the baseline captured during discovery, and published only where verified and approved.
